Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The school that I teach at is located on the Southeast side of Chicago and is a Title I school. We have a total enrollment of 700 students in PreK-8th grades. 95% of our students are Hispanic and come from low-income households. We build strong relationships with families and recognize the importance of reaching academic goals as well as the social emotional needs of the students.

At our school we strongly promote being responsible and the students know that being in uniform is a perfect example of respecting the school rules.

Unfortunately there are times that the students are not able to come in uniform for various reasons. We want to be able to provide them with uniforms when these life situations take place. They will be able to focus on learning instead of not having the proper pieces of the uniform.

My Project

We know that there are so many factors that our students deal with that are out of their control because life is not always easy. Sometimes having clean uniform shirts that fit and their student lanyards is not always possible, but yet they want to come to school and learn.

Funding this project will help us provide pieces of the uniform allowing students to focus on learning and not on the worry of having to explain why they didn't have something to wear.

Events in home lives can be hard to navigate for our children this will provide us a way to make it easier for them.
