My Students

This year, my students are from a mix of grades! During physical education, it is their time to shine in a different way in school, through physical activity. It's a way for students to see their skills outside of the classroom.

Many of my students are from low-income households and live in small, cramped, and crowded spaces.

There is not much green space or large safe spaces for them to run around and play in. Physical Education class gives them the chance to grow in a way they often could not outside of school. In order to get my students up and moving, I need materials that cater to their size, growth, and development. This includes athletic equipment and basic life needs like snacks, sneakers, and clothing items.

My Project

I had a student come to me this morning asking for a t-shirt to wear. It is 96 degrees out today, and he had on a thermal, long sleeve. It was 10:00 am and he was already sweating.

All I had in my gym office was a giant XXL t-shirt to give him.

He took it, gratefully and wore it all day. My student told me he didn't have any short sleeve shirts that fit him anymore; that he outgrew them. I would love to have basic clothing items like shorts, t-shirts, and socks for students when these types of situations occur, which they often do.
