This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Who doesn't love to dress up? All of the kindergarten students at my school have been begging me to wear costumes and dress up during their weekly drama class. They deserve an opportunity to use their imaginations and play! And of course, what is drama without costumes!

My kindergarten students are full of energy and excited about school.

Our school is a Title 1 public school in central Florida. Over 90% of students are Hispanic. We are very fortunate to be an Arts Achieve Model School as recognized by the Florida Alliance for Arts Education. All students receive instruction in Art, Music, and Drama each week as well as integrated into their daily curriculum.

My Project

Career Costumes will help my students explore their imaginations. They will get a chance to pretend to be a fire fighter, a police officer or even an astronaut! By dressing in the costumes students will use dramatic skills such as role playing and improvisation. Language and vocabulary skills will be broadened as they become a doctor, construction worker or chef. Frequently, when students who are shy and reserved, all that is needed to break out of their shell is a chance to pretend to be someone else, if only for a short time.

The possibilities are endless when children play dress up.... self-esteem and confidence grows, language skills are broadened, acting skills are introduced, and they have fun is had by all!
