"See the light in others, and treat them as if that is all you see." I choose to keep this quote for each project that I do because there is so much truth in those words. Dr. Wayne Dyer spoke straight to my heart with his words. Teaching in a self-contained special education classroom, this is one of my greatest hopes for my students. I want people to see the light in them, no matter how it chooses to shine.
I serve a wide range of ability levels in my classroom.
We are a second and third grade room with nine students this year. I have students that can read every sight word you put in front of them and then I have students that can not read any of them, who are working on letter identification. I have students who can add and subtract and students who are still learning their numbers. They all vary so much, but one thing is constant between them all. They are here to learn and I want to give them the best education I can give them. I want to give them what they deserve.
My Project
I have seen success in using these theme boxes in my special education classroom. I have a couple of them and have used them throughout the four years I've been teaching and my students have always loved them and the activities that we do in relation to them! So far, their favorite (and mine) is the "All About Me" theme box. It's a great way to start off the school year and learn all about my students and their families.
I would love to get more of these theme boxes with other subjects to increase the depth of their learning.
I love that the boxes provide you with hands-on tools and activities to use with the lessons and great ideas of how to incorporate them into your classroom successfully! These boxes break down the activities into subjects and they even have book suggestions that can be read while going over the theme/unit. I wanted to also get the books that go with each theme box because reading is such a foundation skill for all learning. I am excited at the possibility of receiving these theme boxes and I know my students will greatly benefit from all of them!
Thank you for taking the time to look at my project and for considering helping me to fund it as well!
