Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I often ask my students to think about this: Anything that humans have invented started out as an idea in a person's imagination.
My students are a respectful mix of Pre-K -grade 8 inner city residents and newcomers from all over the world.
They enjoy sharing ideas and materials and they are very creative! Their three dimensional work is made the old fashioned way- with scrap cardboard and tape. It would be a fantastic reward for their educational passion, to have a 3-D printer right in the classroom for their immediate use!
My Project
Students will research artists like Elizabeth Murray (who leave us questioning where does the plane of 2D end and 3D begin?). Students will know the joy of nurturing creative ideas from start to finish; they will have a tangible piece as an end result. They will learn about technology, and be inspired to roll with the creative snowball this kind of resource can provide. Who knows what will come of it?!
If we are fortunate enough to receive a 3-D printer, my students will realize the endless possibilities of the inspired imagination.
Projects can address social issues, offer creative challenges, and bridge gaps between people of vastly different cultures. Art is universal- these kinds of experiences remain with us for life.
