My Students

For many of us, computers have become as much of a necessity as a phone or a TV. For many of my students, a working computer in the home is still trying to find its way. Please help my students use our lab to produce beautiful projects in color. It opens their eyes and minds to amazing possibilities

My students range in age from primary to end-middle school.

We are a district in need, and most all of our students are free and reduced lunch recipients. However, with the current economy, many of our parents are out of work, and cannot donate the equipment we need to make our media lab produce work that our students can proudly take home. We have a first-grader who knows how to design a PowerPoint as a webpage, but cannot show her mother, because there is no color printer to bring her design to life. We have eighth grade students who want to create portfolio pages for high school, but cannot. They have no ink at home, nor do we have the color we need at school.

My Project

We used to have an HP printer that was excellent. But it was old, and the drum died on us for the last time. We cannot order anything new for the foreseeable future. My second graders can become machine engineers with a color design of a robot that picks up the apartment for mommy. My fourth graders will be able to publish a readable book for the first graders. They will be able to hand out the color pages and read, as the first graders wonder with amazement. The next week, the first graders can type thank you letters and read them back. The ability to communicate comes in many forms. Without the basic ability to print media in color, my students will always see their work as a mere image on a computer screen, and not as a tangible work of "art." Our students cannot afford printers, ink, or even computers of their own. To some, our media center is their only place to learn the beauty of what their imaginations can produce.

You might think "just buy a printer!" But with 530 needy students, that simply is not a challenge I can overcome myself.

Children need to know that someone is willing to go out on the limb for them. Please help me reach my goal of providing the beauty of color in their lives. It will mean so much to them, our parents, and the community we live in. Thank you kindly.
