This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

For the past twenty-three years, I have taught hundreds of incredible, second-grade students in a public K-8 school. They live in a high-poverty neighborhood in New Jersey and are enthusiastic and excited young learners. Our funding is less than ideal, but we make the best of what we have.

These students have taught me that when children want to learn, they can achieve anything.

I do my best to support them, and now, we need your support to help them enter the technological age.

My Project

"Virtual reality is like dreaming with your eyes open." -Brennan Spiegel.

My second grade English Language Learners love to explore and dream of seeing and experiencing new places.

They have a thirst for knowledge and enjoy the video documentaries and photographs I show them of distant places.

By donating to this project, my second grade explorers will be able to experience the world and visit faraway places without leaving the four walls of the classroom.

Oculus Quest 2 creates an interactive, virtual environment for my students to explore. They will be able to float through space, swim with the sharks, and use National Geographic Explore to explore places such as Machu Picchu, Peru and Antarctica. With this technology, my students will no longer be passive learners, sitting at their desks watching a SmartBoard. The world of VR will provide my students the ability to walk around, explore, and immerse themselves into each tour, visiting places beyond their wildest dreams as well as learning and improving their English by developing vocabulary and building background knowledge.
