Help me give my students opportunities to bring life to their imaginations by creating 3D Designs!
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Miller's classroom raised $490

My Students
Students in my school come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Six years ago we changed the focus of our high-poverty school to be STEM and project-based learning. This focus has made all the difference for our students! They are inquisitive, deep-thinking, enthusiastic, problem-solving students who love to learn!
Our goal is to create an environment where students can develop their thinking skills to be prepared for STEM careers, or challenges they may encounter in any career.
Through project-based learning opportunities, they investigate and explore. They learn how to brainstorm, plan, cooperate with others, communicate, design, re-design, and share their learning. We are developing a culture of problem-solving and learning.
Students in my classroom have a wide range of academic needs in Reading. Some are significantly below grade level, and some are significantly above grade level. 25% of the students in my classroom are learning English as a second language.
My Project
In my classroom students are learning about the engineering design process. We use this process to dream about new ideas, design solutions to problems, and then create models of our ideas and solutions. Students work together collaboratively to share ideas, and support each other's learning.
Each Winter our students work together in teams to design a new piece of Winter sports equipment for a Paralympic athlete.
They meet with experts, brainstorm ideas, make small models, improve their models, and finally 3D print a small scale model of their modified equipment. We need a 3D printer to be able to print all of their models and equipment pieces for our showcase. During our showcase, local athletes and experts are invited to attend and give the students feedback about their designs.
In addition to the sports equipment project, our students design flowerpots for the flowers we grow for our neighbors. The flowers are delivered anonymously to the neighbors around our school each year in the Spring.
