My Students
I am an upper-grade elementary teacher hoping to change the lives of my students through teaching. Our vision as a school is that students learn through play, hands-on experiences, technology integration, design thinking, building, and all while making mistakes that lead them to new discoveries. Our belief is that all children can be creative risk-takers that solve real-world problems when provided with the right tools. We believe they are capable of changing the world. We just need to make sure we are prepared to guide them!
Our students need to be prepared for a future that is ever-changing, that prepares them to utilize technology creatively.
In order to be successful at changing our world, the future requires creative problem solvers. As an educator, I know that each child deserves the opportunity to learn and create with technology and this project will help me cultivate the skills necessary for our children to be successful.
My Project
Each week, we provide time for students to design their own learning experience through Genius Hour projects. As part of our curriculum, students use Design Thinking to plan, prototype, and develop creative innovations. Using online design tools such as Tinkercad, students can dream, design and print their projects and bring their ideas to life! Through Design Thinking, utilizing the LAUNCH cycle and the Original Prusa i3 MK3 kit, students can come up with prototypes that are creative solutions to everyday problems. Designing a rollercoaster to learn about forces and motion and need a unique, flexible connector? Creating an original product to sell to raise money for refugees? Fixing something that was once broken? This 3D printer will allow our students' dreams to become reality. If they can dream it, they can design it. If they design it, they can create it!
