Drawings Turned Into Decals Applied to Clay Trivets & Fired!
Help me give my students transfer paper and iron oxide-based toner for decals they will hand draw, scan, print and put on clay tiles for trivets for the holidays.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have clay tiles and wooden frames from years ago in the art room closet that were never used. This year for the holidays students will be making black and white drawings about cheese and comic characters that will be scanned, printed on a printer that uses iron oxide-based toner with a high content decal paper. Students will put the decal of their drawing on clear glazed tiles and fire it in the kiln with the results being their own drawings on clay cheese trivets.
The complex process of using pencils/drawing, computers, printers, scanners and a kiln to create these clay cheese trivets will be exciting during a tough time of year to concentrate.
Combining technology with art and creativity is exciting for me to teach and for students to create and learn different skills they can use in future classes and future jobs.
