Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are an urban high school that has a lack of necessary materials and resources for our students to thrive. Our neighborhood is high poverty and we are considered to be one of the most challenging schools in our area. We have serious attendance problems and many students who are not engaged in learning.
I have taught here for eighteen years and enjoy the creative spirit of my students.
Over the years, I have had the pleasure of seeing my students discover talents they never knew they had. I strive to expose them to as many diversified, artistic experiences as I can.
In our present situation of teaching with a hybrid model, all of my students are working with an art program on their laptops. This is challenging for everyone and has changed our way of learning.
My Project
In the hybrid model of teaching this fall many students do not have materials. This includes those at home and in school. Students have been drawing with pens and pencils using notebook paper and newsprint for assignments.
I would like students to be able to draw in a sketchbook with quality white paper.
This would enhance their work and provide a place to keep assignments and sketches. The easel of paper would benefit students and myself, as it would provide a way for me to demonstrate to students online and in the classroom.
