My students need sketch books, charcoal pencils, and drawing materials so they can express themselves and nurture the "inner-artist" that lives within.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Vygotsky put forth the idea that "drawing is representational thought." This quote comes to life for me every time I look at my students' drawings. I find them everywhere I look, on the backs of notebooks, on folders, and on post-it notes and scraps of paper nestled in the recycling box.
My students are the "roses that grow from concrete." They are lively, inquisitive, and determined to grow in the face of many challenges.
Our school is a public charter school in the poorest community in our state. Resources are limited at school, and almost non-existent at home.
My Project
My students love to draw! They love to closely observe their world and draw what they see, and what they feel. Many have expressed admiration for graphic artists, and a desire to explore that career path. With real sketch books and proper sketching tools, my students will be able to have a way to capture their work, and thus reflect on their work and growth over time as they add to their sketch books.
Art is so important to children's intellectual growth and development, and is unfortunately often viewed as "extra" and therefore cut from many programs.
Many of my students' parents are working 2 and 3 jobs just to make ends meet, and cannot afford real art supplies. Your donation will enable my students to learn that their drawing efforts are valued, and worthy of collecting in special sketch books with special pencils.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
