This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach the art program for Leslie Stemmons Elementary in Dallas for grades K-6. Stemmons Elementary is a title 1 school and this will be our second year for the art program. I am in dire need of a class set of drawing boards!! This past year I introduced gesture drawing. The students loved the activity. They would move their chairs in a circle around the live model and draw several poses. However, we had to use the back of text books for drawing boards. Another project I wanted to have the students participate in was drawing outside (especially during fall and spring when the weather is nice). I would like to incorporate this outside drawing activity when we study land scape or perspective drawing. I could not do this outside project for fear of ruining our text books. I feel the drawing boards would be a great addition to the art program. It would give the students an opportunity to draw outdoors from nature and it would enrich their experience in gesture drawing.
