This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am an art teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district where students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I want things to remain simple in my classroom and I want to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My high school students are very creative in the arts (art and music).
They love to get a chance to express themselves. We are in need of art materials so they can be successful and as creative as possible in class and after-school art club. Students love to receive positive attention and praise from their mentors and peers. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, my goal is to focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I highlight their strengths and try to make every student feel important. I may not be able to control their home lives, but I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire our students to put their best selves forward.
My Project
We have more and more students who are working on stretched canvas and canvas boards.
Students need a space to store large bodies of work.
The canvas storage will minimize work getting ruined and lost because it was floating around the classroom and giving students a central location to store their work.
The drawing boards will help when students create drawings on large pieces of paper. It will also give them a smooth surface to work on and give them a chance to work, not just at their tables, but even in our chill spot area in the classroom where they can be comfortable.
