Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Ten of my twenty students are between three to five years old. They have been identified with a special need and are on an Individual Education Plan. These needs include Autism Spectrum Disorder, Speech and Language delays, Cognitive Delays, difficulty with Fine and Gross Motor Skills, along with other associated diagnosis. The additional ten students are typically developing Pre-K students.

All of my students are learning how to work cooperatively in the following areas: social-emotional, language, and literacy, fine and gross motor skills, adaptive behavior and cognitive growth.

The school population is made up of all cultures and economic situations. The school provides free breakfast to all students and has a free or reduced-price lunch program for those who qualify. The teachers and administration present safe, working classrooms for all students to grow and develop in a collaborative atmosphere.

My Project

The house area in my classroom is a very hot spot for children to develop life skills using developmentally appropriate practices. With so much technology on the rise, I find it essential for my Pre-K students to engage in real-life experiences through dramatic play.

Young children learn best through play.

The materials from this project will allow my students to develop their nurturing instinct through baby-doll play, encouraging them to become loving parents. They will engage in role-playing using dress-up clothes to help make career choices such as doctors, nurses, firefighters, and chefs. They will be using the mirror to develop emotionally as they have the opportunity to witness their own expressions throughout the day.

The magnets and Lego table will be a great asset to our toy and science area, encouraging imagination, language, social skills, and future architects.
