This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Kindergarten is such an exciting year! It is their first formal experience in school. I teach in Stockton Unified School District. We are a Title I School with 80% of our students being economically disadvantaged. All students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students are typical 5 year olds full of wonder and excitement! They come to school excited to learn.
I have created a child-centered and play-based learning environment that offers my students choices.
When you walk by our classroom, you will hear a lot of noise! You will hear us singing and laughing while we dance. You will hear us talking and laughing as we play together at our different learning stations. You will see us working together, sharing toys, and reading books to our stuffed animals in our little library. You will hear and see our energy while having fun and learning together! I LOVE teaching kindergarten, and together we are going to make this year an adventure of a lifetime!
My Project
Dramatic play is very important for developing social interaction skills in early education. Who remembers playing house while growing up? Children love to pretend play and they love to play house. They like to mimic mom, dad, or grandma and sometimes even their teacher! This project will provide my kindergarten students the opportunity for dramatic play with a pretend kitchen along with food, dishes, pots, and pans. Students will have fun playing in the kitchen and cooking together. They will have the opportunity to talk and pretend they are cooking their favorite meals. They will want to take everyone's order and try their best to write it down. Dramatic play will help to develop their language and communication skills as they cook up their favorite meal.
