This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My wonderful group of Head Start students in Silver Spring, MD come from a diverse mix of Hispanic and African cultures. Most of my students are English Language Learners, and some have varied special needs.

Every day they arrive with eyes wide open, ready to learn, play and experience.

Their first year of school comes with so many new experiences. There is so much to learn; how to be in school, how to share and cooperate with others on top of language, literacy and math concepts. It is a huge year for these students! I want to make sure they have all of the tools they need to succeed.

My Project

I would like to refresh our dramatic play area. Currently everything we have is very old. There is no place to put the dolls so they live on a mat on the floor. It would be great to have beautiful new items and the kids would be so excited to use them.

Head Start is a year when children learn how to play and how to play with others.

Especially since these students have grown up in a post pandemic world, they have not had fun opportunities. It would be great to liven up our dramatic play area.
