My Students

I teach a group of amazing, curious, and hardworking general and special education students in first grade. About sixty percent of my students have a range of disabilities, some of which include learning disabilities, physical disabilities, emotional disturbances, speech and language impairments, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Like any other class, my students' abilities and interests range across a wide spectrum.

All of my students require individual or small group attention; each day, I incorporate all of their learning styles, interests, and special education accommodations into our lessons.

Some of my students prefer visual or auditory cues for learning, while some require a more kinesthetic or tactile approach. My students come into our classroom each day with a love of school and a desire to grow as a learner.

My Project

I really want to expand our options for center time in the classroom. In first grade, students love to express themselves in a multitude of ways. Over the years, I have noticed that my students love dramatic play, which is why I would love to get them a cash register and play food. We would love to use the Mesh Zipper Pouches to hold our food and our play money. Not only would a cash register and play food allow them to mimic real life practices of a grocery store, it would also teach them about financial literacy concepts.

I want my students to know that their feelings matter and they can express themselves in any way that they want!

To reinforce this message, I would love to obtain the Feelings and Emotions dough mats. My students love to create things, and they take great pride in designing and making things, which is why I think that the Create Design Drill Kit would be an awesome center for them!

A lot of my students will be entering this school year after spending their entire Kindergarten year fully remote. To help these students, it's vital to have specific reinforcements and modifications in place. The Alphabet Dough mats and Etch-a-Sketch doodle pads will be the perfect supports for students who need a little bit extra help.
