This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember how much you loved recess when you were in elementary school? Running & playing without a care in the world? My scholars have NOT experienced this as our school does NOT have a playground! My scholars need the opportunity to better express their social-emotional needs through play!

My kindergartners are like all other 5-year-olds!

They love to laugh, talk, & explore! Our school is inner-city, receives Title-1 funding, & we do NOT have a playground for them to express themselves on, to be young, active, carefree, & to learn through valuable child-created, child-lead, learning opportunities! So much of being a young child is learning with others, through others, & most definitely through interactive play!

My Project

The resources that I am requesting will enhance our indoor/in-class make-shift play area tremendously! The items I am requesting will foster a sense of community, conversation, and help build relationships as young children that will carry on throughout their entire lives. A dramatic play and block center both foster a sense of sharing, caring, teamwork, and allow young children to express themselves through what they know how to do naturally - play! My scholars will be able to better transfer their playing skills into academic skills of problem-solving, teamwork, and verbalizing wants/needs through natural practice each day when it's time for recess/playground time -- or what we call "Choice Time" in our school! These materials are invaluable and can be used over the course of many years.

Your donations to this project will enable young children to build relationships, vocabulary and communication skills, problem-solving strategies, the opportunity to express themselves through play, and more practice at life skills that will transfer over into their academic/cognitive growth.

These skills are essential to maintaining relationships, self-confidence, and social-emotional well-being. Thank you so much in advance for your donations!
