My Students

A broad education in the arts helps give children a better understanding of their world. We need students who are culturally literate as well as math and science literate." - Paul Ostergard, Vice President, Citicorp. I will not allow the arts to vanish for my students, cultural literacy is alive!

My students attend a very small public school in a very busy city!

They love learning and care about one another. It is a special place where everyone knows everyone's name and the students and families help each other succeed. We just achieved the California Distinguished Award and the Title 1 Academic Achievement Award. These awards show that families and schools working together can make wonderful things happen. The arts are extremely important at our school, and teachers, staff and parents do what it takes to help these children gain access to music, drama, dance, film production, and the visual arts. Test scores and Common Core are a part of the curriculum at our school but don't drive the curriculum and I am proud of that.

My Project

My classroom produces two musicals a year. They act, sing, dance, and perform for their parents and over 200 other students . The wireless microphones will allow the students to be heard in the auditorium. Each year I have some very shy students that want to perform the bigger roles and I allow them, but some of their lines are lost because they don't feel comfortable screaming. Their lines need to be heard and the hard work they put into the productions needs to be displayed fully to the audience. I need 2-way radios so I can communicate with students backstage as I am directing from the audience. They need help with cues or costume and prop changes. These radios will provide them help. I will use the GoPro camera to film and take pictures of these large events. They are light and affixed to a long pole, so can capture the entire production. Also the dress rehearsals can be filmed for those parents that are working during the day and cannot see their child's big performance.

The microphones will allow my students to be heard when performing.

The 2-way radios will allow my students to communicate with me while they are backstage during the productions. The GoPro camera will capture every moment. Parents that are not able to come will feel as if they are there. Students will be able to create post production effects and film interviews on the computer after the shows. "It isn't where you came from; it's where you're going that counts." - Ella Fitzgerald
