My Project

Learning a language means learning about its culture as well. Both are essential to understanding the people and using the language.

It's one thing to read about the culture, and it's another to experience the culture.

That's what I aim to do with this art project.

Dragon Boat Festival is one of the three major festivals in the Chinese culture. One of its major activities is dragon boat racing, and the other is to make and embroider fragrant sachet to drive away insects in the summer season, and prevent an epidemic.

Through this project, students can experience the art of sachet making and try their hands on embroidery and learn to appreciate the hard work and delicate technique of embroidery. It is also a great conversation opener for discussing about traditional Chinese medicine, its history, the various shapes and symbolism.
