Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I service students in grades 3-5 in my district with a variety of learning abilities. Most of my students are at least two to three levels below grade level. Each student is identified by their strengths and weaknesses recognized by quarterly computer-based diagnostic assessments. With this in mind, it is imperative that I provide computer-based learning opportunities for improved academic proficiency. I have discovered that my student focuses attentively while engaged in computer-based learning activities.
My students become academically independent, motivated, and innovative when they interact with computer-based learning programs that provide instant rewards of encouragement.
As a teacher/coach it is also rewarding to see my students develop a love for learning. Each child becomes an active and intricate part of their own educational successes.
My Project
Firstly, it is my desire to provide my students with opportunities to work cooperatively. Having technology for my students to work together to complete project-based activities would assist me with ensuring that I not only build their cognitive abilities but their social abilities as well. I've noticed that when they work together on projects they critically think about the task and they build trust one with the other. I've shifted to utilizing more technology in my lessons and find that incorporating centers have proven to be successful for those students that would normally not participate in whole group activities.
