it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am the proud teacher of an ASD (autism spectrum disorder) classroom, where only two of my students are diagnosed with autism and the rest have been classified with other disabilities LD (learning disabled), ID (intellectual disabled), AD/HD and behavioral issues. However, regardless of their disabilities, classifications, and issues, they are all extra special because they are my kids. They are the ones that motivate me to get up and come to work every morning. I am a "new" teacher in this district, moved from NY to CT about one and a half years ago. Being a teacher for about seven years, I always said, "I didn't choose to teach, teaching chose me" because this is my second career. I chose to go back to school to be a Special Education Teacher. Every year, I have been working with very limited resources but this particular year, when I started, our classroom had nothing. I have been working with leftover materials, things I collected from other classrooms, etc. we need your help.
My Project
Talking about Dr Seuss books is difficult when there is no books from Dr Seuss in the classroom. In order to learn and make connections, my students need to manipulate the books to look at the picture to analyze the rhyming words. I had to borrow books from other classrooms and I felt sad that we needed to return them because the students were eager to learn more about Dr Seuss rhyming and awesome books.
We are also in need of some math manipulatives for our new unit of measurement.
My students have certain disabilities that impede their learning, so when I am teaching new content, we need all the resources that we can use for them to understand and retain new information.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
