This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My transitional kindergarten students are getting younger every year. Six hours of active learning and interaction with 23 other four year olds makes for a long, tiring day for these young students. Many of my students start and end their day at daycare-making it a 12 hour day for them! Understandably they can get overtired, easily frustrated, and have difficulty participating in classroom activities as the day wears on.

Couldn’t we all use a nap to get us through our busy work day?!

These youngsters are able to make it through the day feeling rested and happy thanks to a “Rest Time” scheduled after lunch. These washable mats provide each child with a clean and comfortable place to listen to soothing music, look at a book and rest for awhile. Many of the students actually fall asleep! Each day after their rest, we are able to wipe these mats off and store them in each child’s individual cubby.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my project. My well-rested students and I appreciate any help in getting some much needed rest worked into our busy and exciting day!
