My students need a 12" commercial vacuum cleaner so that we can keep our rug clean enough for us to continue sitting on it throughout the day.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Borock's classroom raised $318
This project is fully funded
Down and dirty, all right, that's what it can be like in my Pre-K classroom where the students are required to spend a good deal of their school day having lessons and stories while sitting on a rug.
My school, located in one of the most compromised inner city communities in New York, reflects the devastating poverty that our students struggle with every day. It is not unusual for them to come to school hungry and improperly dressed. In contrast to their home lives, however, our classroom is bright, cheerful, well-equipped, and a joyous place for them to spend their day. I am hoping to keep it that way.
The trend toward rug-centered teaching can facilitate an intimate and nurturing setting in which young learners feel safe and secure. This is key in promoting a positive learning environment. Students learn to use conversation rather than confrontation to solve problems. A sense of community and cooperation is encouraged, and valuable life-long skills quickly develop. Unfortunately, rugs just lay on the floor, and don't get up and clean themselves!
I would be so grateful for the gift of a vacuum cleaner that I can keep in my classroom that will permit me to ensure that our rug will remain clean and attractive for a long time.
I imagine that the rug that we now have will have to last a very long time. So, I am asking for your donation of a vacuum cleaner so that our children will not have to sit in dirt. Please help me in giving these early learners the clean and safe environment they so deserve. Thank you!
