My students need simple painting tools, like these roll-on and dot painters to express themselves in a short amount of time.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Kindergarten and 1st grade students love art and will be empowered through art. They will write their names and simple words by making letters with dot markers and adding designs with roller paint. This will help build self-esteem in a way that simply writing their names with a pencil will not do.
Our students attend a small, urban, well-loved public elementary school that has been in this community for many years.
Students come from many parts of the world and arrive on our doorstep, sometimes with very little schooling at all and not speaking English. Some of them are refugees. Some others are traumatized by inner-city life. We dedicate ourselves to providing them the best we can in our Spanish-English bilingual school that has a vision of graduating students who are resilient, and culturally aware life-long learners. They are an inquisitive, lively group of students who work hard on academic subjects. However, many of them often feel a bit lost and alone in a strange difficult world. I hope to empower these wonderful students with art. We hope to help all of them to a bright future ahead.
My Project
Kindergarten and 1st grade students will attend my class for 50 minutes once a week. These supplies will allow them to quickly and easily create works of art that they can feel proud of. They will be practicing writing their names and simple labels for their pictures using the medium of paint, but with a difference. They will have more control and less mess. The dot markers and roller paint dispensers will give the students a new way of expressing themselves in a totally fun convenient way. This will build their self esteem as they beam with pride at their artistic accomplishments.
"I want to learn.
The rain can't stop me," said one of our many eager students who just arrived from Guatemala. He had no jacket or rain gear on that rainy day. He didn't care. He wants to learn, and he will learn, with just the right infusion of art. These materials will allow students to creatively spell their names and simple words. This will enhance the learning that takes place in their regular classes. It will improve their self-esteem to be able to quickly produce a work of art.
