Do you really think our students know where our trash goes, or that 60% can be recycled? NO! I teach AP Environmental Science and Biology to high school students grades 10-12. We are a rural 3-A school with a student population that is almost 50% free and reduced lunch.
Our students need to take responsibility for our environment. Starting a recycling program would be step one in this process. If they aren't part of the process they have become part of the problem.
Collection bins for each room where teachers will collect commingled recyclables, school-wide collection in wheeled containers, and city pick-up that would take place once a week. That's our recycling plan.
You are the first step. We need collection devices. The city has agreed to help us pick it up, now we just have to get it there! With your help we can!
