This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are wonderful kids, that have grown up in low income communities. Many of them have not yet developed a love for reading, because of the lack of books they have at home. They are bright individuals that love to explore, have fun, and learn new things. They come to school everyday from 7:20 am to 4:00 pm. They show curiosity, love, integrity and strong will each day when they come to school. My students dream of a library in which they can have multiple books at one time, that they can also be able to take to their homes.
My Project
My students don't have access to books in their home. The majority of them have parents who work multiple jobs and cannot take them to the library frequently. Having a full library in my classroom will give my students the opportunity to read inside and outside the classroom. I am asking for sixteen sets of leveled books, a library of paperback classics, heavy paper trays, a set of magnetic letters and two bean bags.
With your help, my students will be able to borrow books from our new classroom library to take home and continue practicing their reading at home.
They will be able to sit in a comfortable bean bag chair in which they can imagine themselves in their own book. Many of my students will be encountering books for the first time through this classroom library and it is important for me to be able to make this a positive experience that they will remember as they continue reading through out their lives.
