My students need a kidney shaped table that will allow them to see each other more clearly and interact more efficiently when in small group therapy.

My Students
I work with students with disabilities ranging from minor articulation(speech sound) errors to severe Autism or Down Syndrome! Some kids are working on sentence structure, while others may be learning to use a communication device. As a Speech Language Pathologist, I'm fortunate enough to get to know my students on a personal basis, as most sessions are one-on-one or in small groups( 2-3 students).
As much as I am focused on speech and language, I am also a friend and mentor for my students.
They trust me, and share things with me they might not feel comfortable sharing with other adults in their life. I love the relationship we Speech Pathologists can create with our students! It makes all the difference in how we design the most personalized, effective treatment for their success.
My Project
I'm currently using a large, plastic picnic table in my tiny closet of a room. I am wanting something a little bit smaller, with a rounded shape to use the space more efficiently, while simultaneously creating an inviting space for my autistic friends!
The kidney table will also allow my students to make eye contact with each other more easily, fostering a better communicative environment.
I don't want to hyperbolize the importance of a piece of wood. Lord knows us Speechies will do therapy on the floor if we have to ( most of us have)! However, I do believe a new table will accomplish the pragmatic issue of maximizing therapy efficiency
