My Students

A typical day in my classroom is a day where my students utilize tech to enhance their learning. My kids are tech-savvy and up for any tech challenge I throw at them. We participated in an Hour of Code, and my students were so excited that I have made learning to code our mission!

My students are wonderful!

They are a group of students of mixed races, gender, and levels of instruction. I have students who work at high levels and love to be challenged down to students who need that extra push. One thing they all share is their love for the way we use technology in our classroom. They take what I teach them and then teach me! We are an elementary school that is working hard to ensure that our students are taught the way they learn now, not the way we used to learn!

My Project

With the headsets your donations will provide my students will be able to sit down at their computer, plug in their headphones, and learn how to code. We participated in the Hour of Code (a day where children all over the world were introduced to coding), but it was difficult because we didn't have enough headphones to go around. Some kids had to turn up the volume, which was a distraction for other students. Using programs like Tynker and Scratch, my students will learn how computer programmers do what they do. They will become students who are capable of creating games and/or apps. The coding programs are adaptive, geared towards each individual student. They can fly through it or take their time, following the directions that they listen to.

This project will improve my classroom because it will teach my students a skill, coding, that they can use for a lifetime.

It also helps develop creative, critical thinkers which is a skill which can be applied to any subject. The world runs on code. I want them to be part of the world that creates, not just consumes. Coding can not only lead to a career that will exist when they graduate, but they may be able to create apps now!
