My Students
Situated in a rural, high poverty area, my school engages learners in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. We are a positive behavior support school and strive to give our students the best opportunities available to create safe, kind, respectful, responsible learners.
Most of my students do not have access to instruments at home and get most of their music experience in my classroom.
Cultural centers and concert halls are more than an hour away and are often too expensive for students' families. These factors make what happens in music class even more important.
My Project
Students in my school lack common classroom instruments that allow them to practice what they are learning in music class. Without these basics, students are limited to body percussion and leave with little or no practical experience. Partnering with us in this project will put rhythm instruments in the hands of my students.
Instruments such as tambourines and maracas not only keep student engagement high, they bring smiles to faces and increase musical understanding.
Students will use the instruments to perform rhythms we are working on in class, compose their own songs and accompany songs we already know. The potential to improve student learning is limitless.
