This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is located in the southwestern part of Houston and serves kids from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. We are a neighborhood school and a community in the truest sense of the word. We work very closely with our kids and their families to put them on the path to success. We are a diverse place in many ways and I am very fortunate to teach such a wonderful group of kids.
This summer I am looking to add a great set of graphic novels to my repertoire with George O'Connor's "Olympians" series.
The stories of the Greek gods and goddesses let students enter an exciting fantasy world full of compelling characters and vibrant settings.
The books will help me work with students in summer school and also during the upcoming school year. The series has great accompanying activities and will help garner interest in the lore of the ancient world.
My Project
Throughout this year I have seen generous donations of graphic novels and books make a wonderful difference in my classroom. Our district has worked to emphasize middle school literacy and we've had more time for students to self select a history book or current events magazine and read this year than ever before.
As I approach summer and the next school year I need to continue to provide new and exciting options for my kids and George O'Connor's "Olympians" is a perfect fit.
My students will explore mythology as they learn about the ancient Greeks and develop a better understanding of the world of the past.
