Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a P.E. teacher, I am fortunate to interact with all the elementary students that attend my school at least twice a week. They enjoy P.E. because, in my class, we strive to get every student involved and try to make something great happen every day. My students accept challenges and always rise to the expectation that is set for them. This attitude is especially impressive when you consider that my students are part of an incredibly diverse school community.
I teach at a Title I School in Nevada in which a high percentage of my students come from bilingual homes and receive free lunch.
My students often face tough obstacles in their lives but arrive at school smiling and ready to learn. They love their teachers and they adore their principal. Our school truly is a community – a family. We each do our part, as students and teachers work side by side with one mission in mind: our students’ success. Each classroom in our school has their college graduation date written on the board. We help the students set their goals high and we strive to help them achieve those goals.
My Project
My school's athletic program has seen its fair share of successes. We have won championships at elementary and middle school levels. We have grown from just two sports in our inaugural year to nearly a dozen in just a few short years. However, we have not expanded into the Pee Wee age range of sports. We are hoping to see that growth take place this year. We have countless students in our K-2nd Grade level who are interested in flag football. We want to create a program that caters to their development level and provides them with an opportunity to improve their skills and enjoy the game.
Foam footballs are the perfect piece of equipment for young athletes to be introduced to the mechanics and skills of football throwing and catching.
Our current inventory of footballs are too big and their texture is not ideal for a young child's hands. This project will give my young students the chance to explore a sport they are passionate about. It will allow them to be a part of a team that represents their school. This project will show them that they are just as capable as the older students of their school. I, much like my students, am very excited about the potential creation of our Pee Wee football team and this project will make a huge difference.
