Don't Drop the iPad! Cases to Protect Our Technology

My students need 10 headphones to help them listen and learn while using technology, as well as iPad cases that will protect this technology for years to come.

My Students

Our biggest job in K-2 is learning to read! Our eighty kinder, first and second grade students attend a public school in California that serves a low income, high need community of diverse learners.

The school's mission is focused on closing the achievement gap and giving all students an equal opportunity to learn through quality instruction and equitable support.

Our school serves one of the largest African American and Samoan communities in the city. These students are curious, caring, and work hard everyday.

My Project

We have five K-2 classrooms that are sharing iPads. Teachers use these during literacy and math centers as well as to supplement small group instruction. While we are very appreciative to have access to this technology, the ipads that were provided do not have protective cases and we want to keep this technology for years to come! Similarly, our current headphones are cheap, flimsy, and easily broken by our youngest learners.

We need durable cases and headphones that will last for years to come, are safe for students' hands and ears, and allow them to focus and stay engaged with the technology.

We want them to be able to use the iPads without fear of breaking them. We also want to make sure that students that are not on the iPads are able to stay focused and engaged without noise distractions.

Many of our K-2 students are learning how to read, are working on their gross & fine motor skills, and may not be able to read all the words on the screen. The cases will ensure our technology and screens stay protected all year long. By using headphones, our youngest learners will be able to listen to the instructions from a program, listen to a book being read to them, or be able to complete a comprehension quiz where questions and multiple choice answers are read to them. This enables teachers to differentiate instruction in all subject areas providing enrichment for some and targeted instruction for those that are struggling in a particular area.
