My Students
"I'm ready to publish Mrs. Gaiter! Oh no! The printer is out of ink!" Words that make teachers cringe and students moan. We hear this far too often during our writing workshop! Keeping a steady supply of toner for our printer is a real challenge!
I teach 23 curious, natural born third grade scientists in a small Title 1 school with approximately 350 students and an amazing and supportive principal.
My students are eager to learn and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them. Everything is a potential investigation/experiment to them, so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project based opportunities as possible. I enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more by infusing STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) correlations and activities whenever possible. Because of our size, funding levels are not as high as other schools that have larger enrollments, so grants become an integral part of how I obtain materials to supplement learning experiences. I truly believe that the future lies in our children, that they have virtually unlimited potential, and my job is to enable them to reach it.
My Project
My 21st Century learners use technology every day in the classroom. We have recently received a printer, so my students are eager to publish all of their written work, from simple book reports to complicated research projects! It is such a joy to see my students so excited about creating and sharing the fruits of their labor. My challenge is keeping an ample supply of toner for our printer! As my students become more and more independent, they don't need me to show them how to use the printer. They know that they can only print after their products have been "approved" so they are not wasting toner. They are just so motivated that they are producing more and more work! A teacher's dream!
Having a printer that is totally dedicated for my students to use has greatly enhanced productivity and creativity in my classroom and continues to inspire my students to create and complete multiple projects.
With your help, our class will have enough toner to continue to produce and publish! This donation will make an immediate impact on the learning environment in my classroom and enhance the sense of accomplishment and pride my students feel every time they print their work.
