My Students

I teach in a township school of Indianapolis, IN. Many of my students are living in poverty and rely on school to take their mind off of the home situations, that are out of their control. Our school does not have any funding for the classroom to help with student success, so it is up to me as the teacher to make sure students are getting the learning they deserve. I love DonorsChoose.org as it gives me the opportunity to heighten their learning.

My Project

I am teaching a new class this coming year called team sports. This class has been taught to our students before by another teacher but I will be adding my own unique twist to the class. At the end of each unit they will have an All-Star game. Those not chosen for the All Star game will be refereeing. I would love for them to dress the role and actually feel like a real referee. This is a great way for students to gain a better understanding of all aspects of the sport as well as still being involved in the game even if they aren’t playing.
