This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Sea World here we come! My students are 23 highly gifted students who will fund our way to a day of learning about marine life and the environment at Sea World in February. We need help in defraying the cost of meals while we are there.

Highly gifted children have special needs and require a differentiated instructional program to provide them with a challenging and rigorous academic setting.

My students are inquisitive and thoughtful. They love to learn! It is up to me to bring in as much supplemental materials as possible to stimulate their minds and encourage their exploration of new concepts. Since my students tend to perform very well on standardized tests, they are often overlooked and receive very little funding to support their educational program. Our district provides us only $15 per student to purchase supplemental materials for the entire program. We are a public school comprised of three classrooms. Our small school shares a campus with the resident school for this area. Our school is located in a mostly middle to low socioeconomic area. We have a very strong community and parent base, all of whom are vested in providing support for student achievement.

My Project

My students will get a chance for hands-on learning at Sea World in San Diego. Sea World creatively combines education and fun for the kids in a way that will connect them to the sea and marine life. We will do two one-hour enrichment programs that are up close and personal with dolphins and penguins. The full program includes an educational animal presentation, a Science Activity Guide provided prior to our visit, and a Sea World Field Trip Guide to facilitate learning.

This trip will make the a huge impact on these highly-gifted children.

They will learn about marine life, interact with Sea World educators, and observe sea life directly. They will open their minds to conservation issues and the adaptations and habitats of ocean animals.
