Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hi! The students I teach are fabulous and fabulously talented. Our school is in a very under-resourced neighborhood in New York City which means that it is often a rough, crowded, urban life for these children. But they deserve as much fun and as many opportunities as every other child. That's my job- to teach them Performing Arts to make their lives richer.
I have worked hard over the last several years to build a Performing Arts program that includes Circus Arts at my school. It is a unit the students look forward to at the end of every school year. So far we have always learned juggling and clowning and now I want to begin a new area-- Balance Skills! But how can I string a high-wire in my classroom?
Of course I can't really get my students up on a high wire, but I can get them doing several different balance activities that will give them a sense of what Circus performers really need to succeed. The stilts and balance walkers will give them a great start toward balancing like they were in a circus. These will also help all of the students two other ways. They will develop their gross motor skills- good skills to have for any sport or exercise. With your help the students at our wonderful school will enjoy exercise and performance in a whole new way.
With your help the students at our wonderful school will enjoy exercise and performance in a whole new way. And even if they do not all grow up to be clowns in the circus, they will all have yet another wonderful way to exercise and have fun. Please make sure they will all have the chance to smile as they learn. These beautiful children deserve it.
