My Students
Being a Support Mathematics Teacher allows me the opportunity to utilize my background in mathematics as well as special education. I am able to teach students from grades 3-6 who are struggling the most with learning grade level mathematics. I typically work with about 8 students at a time in a small group setting that focuses on what they specifically need to help them reach the Common Core Standards.
Many of my students are coming from low-income households or are English language learner students.
Coming from a low-income household should not be an excuse for these students to not be successful in school and they deserve all the wonderful tools to help them be successful in math.
My Project
I teach my students that, just like improving with an instrument or sport, they need to practice math on a daily basis to help them become strong, confident mathematicians. That is why having Daily Math Practice Journals would greatly benefit my students.
Research shows that spiraling through the mathematics curriculum (or practicing content from across the curriculum) on a daily basis helps students retain information taught to them better throughout the school year.
Having access to these Daily Math Practice Journals would provide my students with the daily practice they need to help them be successful in grade level mathematics.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
