My students need the Woodcock Johnson Reading Mastery Test for reading skills evaluation and diagnosis of areas that need specific intervention and improvement.

My Students

Some kids struggle in school. They get services and interventions. People try to motivate them or discipline them into learning more effectively. Some of these kids simply are not effective readers. How well would you do in school if you never mastered reading?

My students are a diverse group of learners aged 11-21 who come from many cultures including Cape Verde, Haiti, China, The Dominican Republic, and Vietnam.

They are funny, honest, sweet, and bright children. They have mild to moderate cognitive challenges and language-based learning disabilities. Some are on the autism spectrum. For them, reading and writing are tough. They need explicit instruction in the rules of written language to be able to access information in print. They need to learn how to read.

My Project

Schools give a lot of tests. Testing is a controversial topic. I don't believe in testing for the sake of testing, but what I need is a way to systematically assess my students in the many various skills of reading. This test will provide a clear way for me to determine where my students are and what they need in order to become fluent, accurate readers. It will provide a clear starting place and will give us a way to monitor their success and response to instruction.

Without community support, I cannot afford to purchase this tool on my own.

It will have a huge impact on my students by opening them up to learning and helping them break the code of written language. We appreciate your consideration and hope you'll collaborate with us. Please help us create a new generation of readers. Thank you!
