My Students

My students arrive daily with the added weight of having learning disabilities from one of 13 qualifying diagnosis in order to receive Specialized Education. I support them in academic and social learning in order for them to be successful students. These are kids that come to school for the warm inviting atmosphere we create for them to learn at their level and ability. Learning in our room comes from many areas; books, computers, and social interaction with each other. Each day is a new beginning.

My Project

My students come with various challenges to our special education classroom. I have chosen the Reading about Math books so that we can integrate the skills needed to be successful in math into other areas of our day, ELA. The more children are read to and with they have a great chance of acquiring the comprehension of skills to complete their math tasks independently.

Students can be front loaded by the books during reading and then while using the hand2mind class set of manipulatives they can create a visual of a math problem To support their strategy during their math centers.

When students learn from their peers they tend to be more engaged in asking questions or showing their strategy for completing the task.
