My students need 2 digital cameras to document the creative process, 2 flash drives to save footage in order to edit the creative process and one laptop to edit footage.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach elementary dance for LAUSD. I have 9 schools with over 1,000 students. We learn national dance standards while integrating our curriculum with other subjects based on the common core standards. My biggest challenge is integrating technology because we are not given a budget.
My students are eager to use technology and are kinesthetic learners.
They love hands-on learning and the ability to express themselves outside of the pen and paper. My schools have some computer technology but do not use video or dance. They also tend to use the computers for word processing and no other software or programs. They also tend to base lessons on test score improvement vs. hands-on activities involving technology or other mediums besides pen and paper.
My Project
My students will use the materials purchased to videotape their dance choreography and then edit the footage into an arts advocacy video on the PC's. The cameras can also be used to videotape progress on other dances so they may evaluate themselves and their peers. The computer can also be used to research dances and other information related to dance history and performance. The students will learn valuable skills such as cooperation, problem solving, video editing, video filming, choreography techniques and performance. All activities and outcomes based on the national dance standards and common core standards.
The donation will allow my students to integrate technology throughout our time together.
They will utilize the materials for the arts advocacy project and other lessons. They will be prepared for the future by being able to utilize technology. They will be motivated and inspired to keep learning in one of the mediums used (dance, computer and video).
