This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember the first time you solved a difficult mystery presented in science class? All you wanted to do was share you knowledge. That is exactly what I want for my students. I want to unlock the potential scientist in them by offering an innovative way of sharing their discoveries.

I teach at an inner city school.

My kids have the most amazing spirit and energy, which speaks volumes about them because most of them live at the poverty level. Although many of them have very unstable home lives, they come to school ready to learn. Another commonality is their love of technology, which is why they would really be ecstatic about using an ELMO to share their innate curiosity about science and the world with their classmates and the rest of the school.

My Project

One way the students will benefit by the use of the ELMO is my being able to explain and share their point of view as a scientist to classmates. Students will learn to speak in front of their peers and share their position as a scientist by talking through their projects and labs as the rest of the class looks at their work. They will display evidence to support their hypothesis about specific labs by using the ELMO. Students will also learn to operate the ELMO and LCD projector.

We have an LCD projector in the room, but no way of showing lab papers, lab projects or data sheets.

This will prepare my students for their future education by offering them exposure and use of technology that is second nature to their suburban counter parts. My students should not be at an academic disadvantage because of geography. My students deserve to have the resources to do their very best. Being technologically literate will provide each student with additional confidence to excel.
