My Students
My students surprise me with their unique questions and excitement about exploring the world around them. They come willing to learn every day, but do not come equipped with all of the tools.
Over 71 percent of my students get free and reduced lunch and are highly diverse.
They are unique, intelligent, and curious. They come to the table with lots of knowledge. They show a desire to learn about history, but do not always have the tools to access the information through textbooks.
My Project
My students will have easier access to the history of our nation through videos. We will use these videos to supplement the textbooks, so they can really understand historical events. For example, we are currently learning about the American Civil War. We will use clips from the Ken Burn's documentary to help students understand the horrors of battles like Gettysburg or the life changing impact the Emancipation Proclamation had on our nation. They will be able envision themselves as soldiers or comprehend the chaos of Napoleonic war tactics!
By donating, my students will be able to access their own history.
Often textbooks are written at a level to high for my students learning to speak English or that have reading disabilities. Showing them these documentarieswill enhance their learning. Considering that most of my scholars do not have regular access to high quality educational media, your donation will open up their minds to events and information never before considered. Help make history fun!
