Document Cameras Needed to Enhance Distance Instruction!
Help me give my students the opportunity to watch their science teachers explain and solve problems during live and pre-recorded video sessions.

My Students
I am priviledged to work a diverse high school outside of Washington D.C. I teach science to students in grades 9-12, coming from a variety of backgrounds, speaking a variety of languages, and with different learning needs.
On March 13th 2020, our school year as we knew it suddenly game to an end.
We spent the remaining three months of school scrambling to best provide instruction to our beloved students online, with little time to prepare our lessons and modify teaching and learning to be 100% through a screen. Looking forward to the fall, we are unsure what learning will look like, but distance learning will likely be part of it. I would like to be best prepared to reach my students and most effectively teach them important science concepts.
My Project
As science teachers, much of our work involves working through problems with our students on the board. These include things like Punnett Squares, population mapping and chi-squared in Biology, balancing equations and stoichiometry in Chemistry, and various mathematical equations in Physics.
During distance learning, we lack access to large boards in the classroom, and have to become creative to work through these problems with students during both live instruction and pre-recorded videos.
Modeling is one of the most effective instructional strategies we have, and it is severely impacted over distance learning. Document cameras will make this much easier for us, and allow students to watch us solve problems on either worksheets, blank paper, or our own small whiteboards from home.
