it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our ESL students from Queens are eager to learn, but are facing many challenges when it comes to writing, reading, speaking, and understanding the English language. With the COVID-19 pandemic, our students have been facing unprecedented challenges, and have been determined to keep learning despite various struggles.
A number of them come to school remotely and in person each day concerned about how they will work with the information and materials both teachers and their peers are discussing in class.
My students' English language proficiency is low, and they would love any additional help you could give us!
My Project
As the coordinator of the ESL Department, I hope to help all of our ESL students get the support they need from our ESL educators. We have over 120 ESL students, some of whom transferred to our school during the pandemic. A large population of our ESL students have special needs, and we are hopeful that with document cameras and the latest resources in distance learning, we can continue to supply our students with quality and equitable learning experiences.
Including myself, there are three other ESL educators in our building who work one-on-one with English Language Learners regularly.
Using hands-on activities where students can actively see their teachers annotating, highlighting and working with the content materials will help our youth thrive in learning about skills that will support them as resilient life-long learners.
