Document Cameras for Dual Language

My students need a document camera in order to help build oracy and understand complex concepts in both languages.

My Students

In a dual language classroom, students are constantly working to build their skills in both English and Spanish. They are growing up as simultaneous bilinguals, and every activity that we do in class has language demands associated with it.

About half of my students come from English-speaking homes, and the other half from Spanish-speaking ones.

All of them speak both Spanish and English in the classroom, and their skills improve with each passing day. My students are kind, thoughtful, and hardworking, and they never cease to amaze me.

My Project

No matter what subject we are in, half of my students are always learning in their second language. A document camera would provide them with access to visual cues, and would allow us to show work to the group as a whole. It would also enrich lessons and and help my students to make stronger, more meaningful connections to both languages.

Having a document camera would have a huge impact on my students.

It could be used for students to show their thinking with manipulatives during math or to share art projects and writing samples. I could also use it to model procedures for my students so that all are able to see.
