My Students

I teach English and Language Arts to 4th and 5th Grade. We are beginning our year long journey in to writing and I've realized that my students are having difficulty with spelling, vocabulary, and visualizing how to edit a paper. Having the right resources would allow them to be successful.

My students are doing so well this year!

They are already becoming more successful, developing reading and writing routines and becoming excited about reading. We are now beginning our year long units in writing and I've found that they are having trouble understanding how to form a paragraph (indention, punctuation, capitalization) and difficulty with spelling and complex vocabulary. They have so many great thoughts and stories to tell but they are having trouble getting those thoughts on to paper because they aren't sure how to do it. By having a document camera, it would allow students to visualize and see the changes that they can make. And vocabulary resources would allow for vocabulary practice to get them up to grade level and hopefully above grade level.

My Project

I'm requesting a document camera because currently we are using the board to draft stories. This is difficult because as my classes rotate, everything must be erased and we start over. It is difficult to show my students the entire writing process from start to finish when we can't keep our examples in one place. Also, it's hard to show them where they start on a piece of paper, how to indent, and the basics of writing on a chalk board. If I can use paper that looks like there paper and we can edit the same story over multiple days, I know my students will have a better grasp on how to be effective writers. I also requested vocabulary resources because some of my students are below grade level in their vocabulary and with the changing curriculum it will be incredibly hard for them to succeed if they can't boost their vocabulary skills.

This project is deeply important to me and to my classroom because I want to see them succeed.

I want my students to leave my classroom over prepared for the next grade level. I want to give them every tool that they need to be successful in the coming school years and throughout their lives. They deserve these resources as they strive to be good students each day.
