Document Camera to Make Learning Engaging

My students need one document camera for the students to see their work on screen and be able to visualize their learning.

A day in the life of an urban third grade teacher in Pennsylvania is...well... let us just say that NO day is EVER the same. It sure keeps you on your feet. I teach third grade in Pennsylvania in a tiny community where all kids receive free and reduced lunch and breakfast.

My students have a lot of life and energy that they are constantly bringing into the classroom. I am always trying to find new and exciting ways to engage these energetic learners. Our school does not supply us with paper, transparencies, markers,tissues, pencils, or anything that is needed for the classroom. We have three computers that do not work and I am constantly teaching from an overhead projector that is old and falling apart (that I am buying the supplies for). Many of my students are visual learners, and the only type of technology they have at home are TVs and video games.

Having a document camera would allow me to stop spending money on transparencies and markers, allow the students to view their work and learn in a modern, colorful new way. It would engage them, keep them focused, and allow them to be apart of their learning. I have taught using one before, and it is amazing how much a new and different piece of technology can make a difference in the attention and learning of the children. Especially ones that have probably never used this in the classroom before.

I know that this is a lot of money, but these children and their teacher could really use the support and assistance. These children are growing up in a technological generation, yet, many of the children I teach will not know much about it due to their socio-economic status. It is up to the schools to introduce and immerse these technologies into their lives, yet the school district cannot afford to do so either. With your help, this really could make a difference in my classroom and the lives of these children. Thank you for your support!
