Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) Magnet school with a diverse population that reflects Los Angeles County. Half of my students ride the bus in from various parts of Los Angeles County. Most of our school receive free or reduced-price lunch.

My students are motivated and diligent students.

I not only have an ethnically diverse class, but I also have a class with varying academic abilities. I have students who have been identified with special needs as well as students who demonstrate strong academic capabilities. My students come with a keen interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Our school's goal is to prepare every child to be college and career ready, especially in the areas of STEAM.

My Project

The majority of my first grade students are visual learners and learn best when they can see me model the lesson on the screen while they are following along. The document reader will help me project workbooks, modeling of strategies, and the use of manipulatives during lessons.

Young students learn best when learning is made visible, not just heard.

I know the document reader will act as an effective teaching tool during this time of distance learning because my students will be able to see and experience learning alongside me as I model my lessons on the screen.
